Plants tufted, bulbous, to c. 40 cm high. Leaves linear-lanceolate to lanceolate, 20–50 cm long, 10–35 mm wide. Inflorescence 6–8-flowered, erect or subsecund, apex remaining erect; pedicels 4–10 mm long. Flowers erect, lower ones usually becoming pendent, not scented; perianth campanulate, blue; tepals oblong-lanceolate, 15–20 mm long, spreading, not recurved at apex; stamens equal, inserted below middle of perianth; anthers blue. Flowers spring.

Hyacinthoides hispanica and H. non-scripta are commonly hybridised in cultivation, and many naturalised populations are likely to include or only consist of hybridised plants. As such, many plants encountered are likely to be somewhat intermediate between these two species.
