Prostrate or decumbent annual with branches to c. 30 cm long. Leaves 4–6 (seldom more) per whorl, linear to narrowly obovate, 4–25 mm long, 0.5–3 mm wide. Flowers solitary in axils or in small umbels; pedicels c. 1–5 mm long; perianth segments obovate, c. 1–2 mm long at anthesis, enlarging slightly in fruit, green with pale membranous margin; stamens 3; stigmas virtually sessile. Capsule ellipsoid, c. 2.5 mm long, slightly exceeding perianth segments; seeds reniform, c. 0.5 mm long, dark reddish-brown, smooth and shining with 3–7 low dorsal ridges. Flowers May (1 record).
VRiv. Also Qld, NSW. Native to tropical America, naturalised in Europe. Collected twice in Victoria (1994 and 1996) from recently inundated flats along the Ovens River near Peechelba (north of Wangaratta).
