Eucalyptus polyanthemos subsp. vestita
L.A.S.Johnson & K.D.HillTree to 20 m tall; bark grey. Adult leaves orbicular to ovate, 4–5 cm long, (2–)3.5–5 cm wide, glaucous, sometimes becoming green. Buds pruinose. Flowers Oct.–Jan.
Wim, VVP, VRiv, GipP, Gold, CVU, NIS, EGL, EGU, HSF, HNF, MonT, VAlp. Also NSW. Widespread in Victoria on poor stony ground, usually on ridges and dry slopes of foothills east from near Ararat, both north and south of the Great Dividing Range.
Recently described and distinguished from the typical subspecies, which is endemic to New South Wales, by the completely rough bark.
Plants on infertile stony soils in low hills west of Inglewood are now included in Eucalyptus polyanthemos subsp. marginalis.
Populations intermediate between Eucalyptus polyanthemos subsp. vestita and subsp. marginalis occur in the Castlemaine area, likewise intermediates between subsp. vestita and subsp. longior occur east of Bairnsdale.
