Mallee or tree to 15 m tall. Not waxy. Juvenile leaves to 6.5 cm long, 4 cm wide; adult leaves to 12 cm long, 2 cm wide; buds globular. Flowers creamy to pale yellow; ovules in 4 vertical rows. Fruit to 0.8 cm long, 1.1cm diam.; valves 6(7); pedicel shorter than fruit. Flowers May–Nov.

Formerly referred to E. leucoxylon subsp. pruinosa but E. leucoxylon subsp. stephaniae has narrower juvenile leaves with rounder bases, never stem-clasping, has a shorter juvenile phase, smaller fruit with persistent pellicle, no glaucescence and occurs in mallee country.
