Prostrate annual with branches to c. 30 cm long. Leaves rhombic to trullate, 1–4 cm long, 5–20 mm wide, smooth to papillose, semisucculent, sparsely hirsute when young; petiole 5–15 mm long. Flowers solitary, subsessile; perianth segments 4, triangular, 1–1.5 mm long, smooth and green on inner surface, outer surface with papillae and conical vesicular hairs; stamens 4; styles 3–8. Fruit dry, laterally compressed, 5–7 mm long, broadly winged on the 2 narrow angles, 6–9 mm diam., narrowly winged on the obtuse angles, variably ribbed between angles; seeds 3–8, asymmetrically ovoid, pale brown, c. 2 mm long. Flowers Aug.–Oct.
LoM, MuM, MSB, RobP, MuF. Also WA, SA, NSW. Occasional in mallee and Casuarina pauper woodlands in the far north-west of Victoria, on sandy or loamy calcareous soils, sometimes slightly saline.
