Casuarina pauper
F.Muell. ex L.A.S.Johnson BelahGreyish trees to c. 20 m high, sometimes suckering from roots. Branchlets mostly spreading, to 25 cm long; internodes 8–17 mm long, 0.6–0.9 mm diam., slightly wrinkled, strongly waxy; closed furrows shortly and densely pubescent; ribs flat or with slight median groove, often masked by wax. Teeth 9–13, spreading or recurved on new shoots. Male spikes 1–3 cm long, 6–10 whorls per cm. Cones on peduncle to 1–14 mm long, subglobular or cylindric; cone body mostly 10–22 mm long and 11–15 mm diam. Winged seeds 6–11 mm long. Flowers seldom seen.
LoM, MuM, Wim, MSB, RobP, MuF, NIS. Also WA, SA, Qld, NSW. Usually growing in open woodlands with Callitris gracilis on sandy rises in the northwest corner of the State. Reports from the Wimmera region have not been confirmed.
