Erect, often spindly tall shrub or small tree to 6 m high, perennial, soft-wooded; branches glabrous, new growth and inflorescence very sparsely pubescent with simple hairs. Leaves ovate or elliptic, 2–13(–35) cm long, 0.5–4(–7) cm wide, apex acute or obtuse, base obtuse, glaucous, glabrous; petiole 1–6(–12) cm long. Inflorescences terminal, panicle-like, short, dense. Flowers on short indistinct pedicels; calyx tubular, 7–17 mm long, glabrous except for margins of teeth; corolla yellow, tube 20–40 mm long, 3–6 mm wide at apex of calyx, pubescent, limb 8–13 mm diam., lobes obtuse; stamens more or less equal, all inserted in lower half of corolla-tube, filaments 19–29 mm long. Capsule ellipsoid to suborbicular, 7–13 mm long; seeds broad-ovoid to reniform, 0.5–0.9 mm long, wrinkled or honeycombed. Flowers mainly spring (but throughout the year).
