Two varieties with Dawsonia superba var. pulchra in Victoria. Dawsonia superba var. superba occurs in New Zealand and Malesia. It is distinguished from Dawsonia superba var. pulchra by its papillose seta and its longer leaves with laminae mostly over 19 mm long and longer stems up to around 65 cm long, with the leafy part over 13 cm long (van Zanten 1973).
