2 subspecies; Senecio productussubsp. productus in Victoria. Senecio productus subsp. magnus is known only from the type specimen that was collected beside a clay pan in far eastern South Australia about 250 km north of Victoria. It differs from the nominate subspecies by its longer ligules that are c. 1 mm long and by its longer cypselas that are greater than 4.5 mm long.
