Adult leaves blue-green to somewhat pruinose, new growth and buds faintly pruinose. Fruits 4–6 mm long, 4–5 mm diam.; pedicles 1–3 mm long. Flowers early autumn.
Wim. Apparently restricted to the Wimmera region where it occurs in mallee vegetation to the south of the Little Desert.
This subspecies could be mistaken for a dull-leaved form of Eucalyptus wimmerensis. Aside from the difference in colour of new growth, where plants co-occur with E. wimmerensis, E. polybractea subsp. subcerea may be distinghuished by the duller adult leaves, substantial stocking of box-bark, and lustrous, copper-coloured (rather than off-white to grey) smooth upper bark.
