Schistidium apocarpum

Autoicous. Tufts on dry rock. Stems 5–50 mm long, brownish, covered in rhizoids near base, central strand absent or present. Leaves erecto-patent when moist, erect-appressed to somewhat curved when dry, ovate-lanceolate, 1.8–3.2 mm long, 0.5–0.8 mm wide, V-shaped, keeled, unistratose except for margins; costa subpercurrent to excurrent; apex acute or obtuse, often with hyaline hair-point; margins entire or with small teeth at apex, recurved in the basal two-thirds, plane near apex, bistratose; laminal cells isodiametric to rectangular, 9–20 μm long, 8–12 μm wide, smooth or weakly papillose abaxially. Seta 0.1–0.6 mm long, yellow, smooth. Capsules cylindric or oblong, rarely campanulate, 0.4–1.5 mm long. Calyptra cucullate or mitrate. Operculum rostrate from hemispheric base, 0.45–0.55 mm long. Peristome teeth pointing outwards when dry, entire.
