Agonis
Shrubs or trees; bark fibrous; young stems with simple hairs. Leaves alternate, sessile to petiolate. Inflorescence of head-like clusters, axillary. Flowers bisexual, sessile; bracts few to many, inconspicuous; hypanthium obconic to cup-shaped; sepals 5, usually persistent in fruit; petals 5, spathulate to obovate, tapered to base, somewhat persistent; stamens c. 15–30, opposite sepals, shorter than petals, anthers attached near the top, with a gland near the connective, versatile, opening by slits. Fruit a loculicidal capsule, 3-valved; seeds usually 1 or 2 per cell, narrowly ellipsoid to obovoid, grey to black, minutely papillose, minutely winged at apex.
4 species endemic to south-west Western Australia, 1 species naturalised in Victoria.
