Microsorum
Rhizome scales with lattice-like patterning (due to raised, dark and thickened cell walls), narrowly lanceolate to broadly ovate, attached near centre of broad bases. Stipes in two rows along upper surface of rhizome, articulated, leaving raised scar when shed. Lamina undivided or pinnately lobed, margins entire; veins much divided, forming network with free vein endings in areoles.
About 60 species, most of them Asiatic; 6 occurring in Australia. The 2 Victorian species are sometimes included in the genus Phymatosorus (= Phymatodes), but there appears to be no clear distinction between this genus and Microsorum.
