Erect rhizomatous shrub to 1.2 m high; cladodes greyish green (green when young). Cladode scales 2–4 mm long. Flowers solitary or paried; bracts 2–3 mm long; calyx lobes more than 1.5 mm long; standard usually 9–9.5 mm long with claw c. 2.8 mm long; keel c. 9 mm long (including claw). Flowers October.
Known from a few populations in the Wombat State Forest near Daylesford, growing in open forest.
Historic records from East Gippsland (Snowy River gorge and Bendoc areas) are now included in B. vombata subsp. orientalis (see note under that taxon).
