Shortly rhizomatous vine to 10 m high. Leaves linear to narrowly lanceolate, 2–13 cm long, 0.2–1 cm wide. Inflorescence cymose, single flowered to paniculate, bracts reduced. Flowers 10–22 mm wide, white to pale pink or mauve; stamens shorter than perianth segments; ovary 2–3 mm long. Berry ovoid, 7–20 mm diam., black; seeds numerous, 2.5–4 mm long, 1.5–2.5 mm wide. Flowers Oct.–Jan.
GipP, EGL, EGU, HSF. Also Qld, NSW. New Caledonia. Moderately common in and at margins of warm-temperate rainforest from the Mitchell River Gorge area east to the NSW border; occasionally cultivated.
