Plants shortly rhizomatous to c. 20 cm high. Roots fibrous-fleshy. Leaves in tufts, linear, flat, spreading, c. 15 cm long, c. 1–2 mm wide. Inflorescence decumbent, shorter than the leaves, simple or branched. Flowers clustered in bract axils, 5–8 mm wide, greenish-white; perianth segments spreading, longer than stamens. Capsule c. 6 mm wide. Seed c. 2 mm diam. Flowers Jan.–Feb.
HSF, HNF, VAlp. Also NSW, Tas. Relatively rare plant of moist grassland and heath-land in the alps (e.g. Snowy Range, Mt Wellington, Mt Buffalo, Cobbler Lake area, Bogong High Plains).
