Autoicous. Turves or tufts on soil. Stems 2–5 mm long, once-branched, reddish brown. Leaves obovate to oblong-obovate, (1.3–) 1.5–2.5 mm long, 0.6–1.2 mm wide, concave adaxially, erect-spreading when moist; costa subpercurrent to long-excurrent; margins entire, rarely bluntly dentate in apical half, plane, without a border; apex broadly acute, acuminate, rarely obtuse, sometimes cuspidate or aristate; cells in apical half oblong-hexagonal, (24–) 30–69 μm long, 15–18 (–25) μm wide, more oblong and larger near base; alar cells few and moderately inflated or not or weakly differentiated. Setae 4–16 (–30) mm long, twisted to weakly to right throughout, pale reddish brown. Capsules obovoid-cylindric, obovoid, or occasionally pyriform, symmetric or rarely slightly asymmetric, erect, 1.5–2.5 mm long. Operculum low conic or umbonate, c. 0.5 mm diameter. Peristome double, rarely single; endostome variable, rudimentary to well developed.
