MuM, Wim, VVP, VRiv, MSB, RobP, MuF. Also naturalised SA. Native to the Mediterranean region. Naturalised mostly in north-western Victoria in wastelands, roadsides, swampy areas, besides watercourses or in seasonally inundated sites.

Overseas collections of this taxon have an indumentum on vegetative parts that includes stalked glandular hairs and mericarps that are whitish-granulate on the inner surface (Townsend 1980). All Australian collections lack glandular hairs and have completely smooth mericarps (Munir 2002).
