Peganum harmala

Spreading herb 30–80 cm high, glabrous; stems rigid, much-branched. Leaves usually divided several times, 10–50 mm long, sessile, ultimate divisions more or less linear, mostly 1–2 mm wide, apex acute. Flowers solitary; pedicels to 20 mm long; sepals usually 5, linear, 8–20 mm long, often toothed or divided, free; petals usually 5, ovate-oblong, 12–17 mm long, sometimes toothed or lobed, apex obtuse, creamy-white. Fruit a loculicidal capsule, depressed globose, 7–10 mm long, 8–12 mm diam., stipitate, opening at apex. Flowers mostly Nov.–Feb.
