Plants shrubby or climbing, up to 5 m long. Leaves dispersed along stem, spreading, linear-lanceolate, 7–18 cm long, 1.2–1.5 cm wide, stem-sheathing, auriculate; margins toothed, ciliate towards base. Inflorescence simple, with a dense cylindric raceme, 20–40 cm long. Bracts deltoid, apex subulate, c. 7 mm long. Flowers spreading to pendulous, cylindrical; perianth segments scarlet, 25–40 mm long, united for most of their length; anthers exserted 2–4 mm; style exserted 2–4 mm.
VVP. Native to the Cape region of South Africa. Sparingly established at Dromana in waste area beside track to the highway, and at St Leonards on vacant land in degraded coastal scrub.
