Sclerolaena caput-casuarii (syn. Bassia caput-casuarii J.H. Willis) is regarded as a probable hybrid between Sclerolaena divaricata and Osteocarpum acropterum var. deminutum. It was described from plants collected in the Benetook area (south-east of Mildura).
Hybrid plants are sterile, and typically solitary, growing in amongst large populations of one or more species of Sclerolaena.
