Notelaea
Shrubs or small trees, evergreen. Leaves opposite, simple, margins entire or finely crenate, coriaceous, surfaces glabrous to velvety, venation obscure or clearly reticulate, petiolate. Inflorescences of axillary racemes sometimes reduced to sessile clusters; flowers bisexual, yellowish; bracts early caducous; calyx of 4 triangular lobes; corolla of 4 petals, broad-ovate, joined in 2 pairs at base of stamens, the pairs free or joined at very base only, induplicate-valvate or imbricate in bud; stamens 2; ovary flask-shaped, 2-celled, ovules 2 per cell, style short, stigma 2-lobed. Fruit a drupe, purplish-black, white, pink or red; seed enclosed in woody endocarp.
12 species, all endemic to Australia, mostly in tropical and subtropical areas.
