Description as for the species, but c. half or more of the male catkins once- or twice-forked. Leaves are proportionately broader (often broad-lanceolate or ovate) and more coriaceous than nothovar. fragilis. Catkins are exclusively male. Flowers Oct.–Nov.
Native to western Europe. Abundantly naturalized on streamside alluvium in the catchment of the Tarwin River, South Gippsland along many kilometres of stream-bank. Highly distinctive by virtue of its furcate catkins; it is considered to be a single male clone derived from Salix fragilisnothovar.fragilis. It is the latest flowering Victorian Salix.
