Brachythecium mildeanum
(Schimp.) Schimp. ex MildeAutoicous. Stems slightly ascending, 35–60 (–70) mm long, irregularly branched, yellow-brown, branches to 30 mm long. Stem and branch leaves differing slightly; cells linear, 55–115.5 μm long, 7–12.5 μm wide, smooth; alar cells oblong, rectangular or occasionally subquadrate, 15–35 μm long, 12–20 μm wide, not inflated, forming a poorly delimited ovate group extending from leaf margin ¼ the distance to costae. Stem leaves triangular, occasionally ovate-triangular, 1.5–2.8 mm long, 0.8–1.2 mm wide, concave, not or occasionally slightly plicate; costae extending 1/2–2/3 leaf length, occasionally with an indistinct spine; apex acuminate, without a hair-point; margins entire, rarely denticulate near apex, sometimes recurved at base and apex. Branch leaves ovate or triangular, 1.5–2.1 mm long, 0.8–1.1 mm wide; apex acute or obtuse and apiculate; margins denticulate near apex. Setae 20–25 (–40) mm long, red-brown, smooth. Capsules inclined, cylindric, curved, 2–2.5 mm long.
EGU, VAlp. Recorded from near Marysville and a campground on the Errinundra Plateau in East Gippsland. Typically found in anthropogenic sites such as lawns, parks, gardens and roadsides. Also SA and NSW. Naturalised. Native to Eurasia. .
