Vicia sativa subsp. nigra

Stems mostly to c. 50 cm long. Leaves 2.5–7 cm long; leaflets variable, obovate to linear, mostly 1–6 mm wide, obtuse to emarginate. Calyx (5–)7–12 mm, teeth subulate, shorter than tube; corolla 8–20 mm long. Pod 2.5–5 cm long, 4–6 mm wide, not constricted between seeds, very dark brown to black, usually glabrous; seeds globose, 2.4–4 mm long.    Flowers mainly Aug.–Nov.
