Leptorhynchos waitzia
Sond. Button ImmortelleAnnual, 5–20 cm high; branched mostly from base, stems ascending, white-cottony. Leaves narrow-oblanceolate, 1–4.5 cm long, 1–4 mm wide, reducing slightly to just below capitulum, acute, upper surface scabrous with coarse, septate hairs, sometimes cottony, lower surface with septate hairs mostly along midrib, otherwise glabrescent or cottony, margins recurved. Capitula broadly campanulate, 1–1.5 cm diam.; outer involucral bracts ovate with rounded apices, almost transparent, or with straw-coloured flecks or streaks, minutely glandular, margins shortly ciliate; inner bracts linear, mostly herbaceous, glandular, with scarious, acute or subacute, ciliate tips; florets yellow. Cypsela c. fusiform, with short apical beak or subapical neck, c. 3 mm long, scabrous; pappus white at base to yellow at tip, bristles 15–20, barbellate, 5–6 mm long. Flowers Sep.–Oct.
LoM, MuM, Wim, VVP, VRiv, MuF, Gold. Also SA, NSW. Occurs in open grassy plains, grassy woodlands and sandy flats in mallee areas, with isolated occurrence at Lake Corangamite where growing on on fine-grained soil with Coxiella shells.
