Terrestrial, chiefly saprophytic herbs. Roots very thick and brittle. Stems erect, leafless (in Victoria), with overlapping sheaths at base, becoming more distant and bract-like toward flower head. Inflorescence terminal, erect, racemose. Flowers few–50; sepals and petals free, more or less equal, spreading. Labellum sessile on base of column, 3-lobed; lateral lobes much smaller than middle one, somewhat embracing column to form tube; mid-lobe narrowly ovate, convex, hairy along midline. Column erect, semicylindric, not or scarcely winged.

About 30 species in the west Pacific area; 11 occurring in Australia (all of them endemic), 6 in Victoria.
