Erect or straggling shrub to c. 1 m high; stems with dense tubercle-based, spreading, twisted or curled setae to c. 1.5 mm long or more sparse antrorse setae, rarely glabrous. Leaves mostly in whorls of 3–5, rarely a few opposite or alternate, narrow- to broad-elliptic, rarely almost linear or suborbicular, mostly 5–15 mm long, 1–8 mm wide, acute or obtuse, often mucronate, margins flat to revolute, surfaces variously hairy particularly on midvein and near margins. Inflorescences 1- or rarely 2-flowered; peduncles elongating, 5–23 mm long in mature flowers, densely or sparsely covered with hairs of various length, rarely glabrous. Sepals lanceolate to broad-ovate, mostly 2.5–3 mm long, often glandular-hairy, deciduous; petals c. ovate, 6–15 mm long, deep lilac-pink or white, deciduous; ovary usually densely hairy; ovules 4. Fruit cordate to obcordate, 4–6 mm long; seeds more or less ovoid, 2.5–3 mm long, turgid. Flowers mostly Sep.–Nov.
