Calotis cymbacantha

Erect, branched, hirsute, annual or short-lived perennial, 10–30(–40) cm high. Leaves oblong to narrow-obovate in outline, 10–65 mm long, 7–15 mm wide, coarsely toothed to pinnatifid, or the uppermost subentire; basal leaves usually pseudopetiolate, upper leaves sessile. Capitula 12–20 mm diam.; involucral bracts ovate to obovate, 3–5 mm long, with mixed eglandular and shorter glandular hairs; ray florets c. 15–40, yellow, 4.5–6 mm long; disc florets sterile. Cypsela body 2–3 mm long, tuberculate on each face, brown; awns 2 (rarely alternating with 2 much smaller), spreading at right-angles to plane of cypsela faces, 2–6 mm long, stout, dilated and concave at their bases and united across the top of the cypsela body, barbed near apex. Flowers Aug.–Oct.
