Ranunculus robertsonii
Benth. Slender ButtercupPerennial, 2–25 cm tall, with narrowly tuberiform roots. Leaves all or mostly tufted at base; petioles 1–10 cm long, with fine appressed hairs; lamina ovate to deltoid in outline, c. 1–3 cm long and wide, appressed-hairy more densely on lower than upper surface, deeply ternately or biternately divided, the ultimate segments narrowly lanceolate to linear. Flowering stems erect, exceeding leaves, with appressed hairs throughout, 1–3(rarely more)-flowered; sepals 5, spreading, ovate, 3–7 mm long, appressed-hairy on back; petals 5, broadly obovate, 8–15 mm long, 4–10 mm wide, yellow, glossy, sometimes reddish on back; nectary lobe cuneate, sometimes emarginate, free for c. half its length, c. 1–2 mm long overall; stamens 30–40. Achenes c. 20–50, semicircular or c. triangular, margin thickened, faces flat to slightly biconvex, often broadly ridged or dimpled, 1.3–3 mm long, usually as wide or slightly wider; beak stout, almost straight or sharply bent near base, tapered evenly to tightly recurved apex, 1–2 mm long; receptacle hispid between achenes, glabrous in the staminal zone. Flowers Aug.–Dec.
LoM, MuM, Wim, GleP, VVP, VRiv, Gold, CVU, GGr, DunT, NIS. Also SA. Localised, but locally common in swamps, seasonally inundated depressions and moist mossy ledges and crevices overlying rock, westward from about Shepparton.
