Persicaria praetermissa
(Hook.f.) H.Hara Spotted KnotweedScrambling or procumbent (usually) perennial, stems to c. 1 m long or more, bearing short, coarse, reflexed to retrorse hairs. Ochreas with scattered short, semi-appressed hairs, not ciliate at apex. Leaves oblong to narrowly ovate, hastate at base, 3–20 cm long, 6–18 mm wide, margins and veins with short coarse hairs, occasionally also scattered over lamina; petiole c. 8–20 mm long. Inflorescence slender, c. 5–9 cm long, usually forked at or above midway, with 2–5 clusters of flowers spaced along each branch; peduncle with spreading glandular hairs; perianth segments 2.5–3.5 mm long, pink or white, free to near base. Nut obtusely 3-angled or biconvex, c. 2.5 mm long, 2 mm wide, smooth and shining, dark brown or reddish. Flowers Nov.–May.

Occasional in swampy areas and margins of slow-flowing rivers, chiefly in lowland and foothill country of the east and locally common, rather rare in the west (e.g. Portland, Grampians, Creswick, Port Campbell, Anglesea).
