Acaulon chrysacanthum
I.G.StoneMonoicous. Plants simple, bulbiform, to c. 2 mm tall, glossy reddish gold. Leaves imbricate, incurved, broadly ovate or oblong-ovate, deeply concave; outer leaves minute, bract-like; inner leaves larger c. 1.5 mm long; apex acute; costa excurrent as a gold arista; lamellae in 2 (–3) rows, each lamella 2–9 cells high, undulating; terminal cells slightly mamillate; margin entire, occasionally irregularly crenulated and slightly reflexed at apex; laminal cells in the apical half rhombic to short-oblong; basal cells oblong-hexagonal or rectangular, hyaline. Perichaetial leaves to c. 1.5 mm long. Capsule globose, c. 0.8 mm diam., glossy reddish gold. Spores spherical, papillose, c. 30–35 μm diam.
MuM, Wim, MSB, RobP, MuF. On open bare soil on roadsides, town centres, under woodland or mallee or beside salt lakes or waterways in the north-west of the state. Also WA, SA and NSW.
