Atriplex eardleyae
AellenDecumbent or prostrate annual or short-lived perennial to c. 20 cm high, monoecious. Leaves shortly petiolate or subsessile, rhombic to ovate, 6–15 mm long, 4–9 mm wide, usually entire, mealy grey on both surfaces. Male flowers in small clusters at or near branch-tips, female flowers clustered in lower axils, occasional clusters with both sexes. Fruiting bracteoles fused for the greater part, trumpet-shaped, 4–7 mm long, 3–5 mm wide, dilated and flattened above midway, sinuate at apex or 3–5-toothed, prominently veined, the adaxial valve slightly shorter than abaxial and with a pair of wrinkled appendages toward the base, the whole covered with vesicular hairs Fruits Oct.-Apr.
LoM, MuM, Wim, VVP, VRiv, MSB, RobP, MuF. Also WA, SA, Qld, NSW. Occurs on a wide range of soils, but mostly on heavier soils near lakes or in dune swales (e.g. Lake Tyrell, Lake Boga near Swan Hill, Lake Hawthorn near Merbein, Hattah area), with an outlying occurrence near Craigieburn (an outer northern Melbourne suburb), often occurring with A. pseudocampanulata.
