Stellaria filiformis
(Benth.) Mattf.Annual with slender taproot, glabrous; stems slender, erect and spreading, branched from base, 5–22 cm long. Leaves sessile, in a basal rosette, filiform, (3–)5–20(–27) mm long, 0.2–1 mm wide, inflorescence leaves ('bracts') sessile, ovate to narrowly ovate, 2–4 mm long, 0.5–1 mm wide, margin scarious. Inflorescence a dichasium; fruiting pedicel erect, (2–)3–9(–11) mm long; sepals 2–4 mm long, apex acute or obtuse, margin scarious; petals (3–)5, less than half sepal length; stamens 2–4, some may be reduced. Capsule (2–)3–5 mm long, 1–1.5 mm diam., far exceeding sepals; valves straight; seeds 5–13, 0.4–0.75 mm long, cream to yellow, tubercles very small. Flowers Aug.–Nov.
LoM, MuM, Wim, RobP, MuF, GipP, Gold, GGr. Also WA, SA, NSW. Largely confined in Victoria to the north-west where occasional in mallee scrub and heathlands, mainly on sandy soils, but with isolated records from near Dimboola and the Grampians.
