Annual or semi-perennial herb, glabrous or scarous; stems weak, straggling to ascending, to 70 cm long. Leaves 10–40(–55) mm long, margin rarely recurved. Pedicles slender, (15–)20–72 mm long, erect in fruit. Sepals narrowly to broadly ovate or elliptic, (3.5–)4–8(–9) mm long, acute to acuminate; petals (3.5–)4–7.5(–9) mm long, bifid; stamens 10, filaments 3.3–6 mm long. Seeds 8–33, suborbicular to ellipsoid; tubercules narrow and flattened, and somewhat ridge-like.
MuM, Wim, GleP, Brid, VVP, VRiv, MuF, GipP, OtP, WaP, Gold, CVU, DunT, NIS, EGL, EGU, HSF, HNF, MonT, VAlp. SA, Qld, NSW, ACT, Tas. Widespread in swampy places from alpine swamps to the Murray River floodplain, and less frequently, near sea level in southern Victoria.
