Dioicous. Asexual propagules absent. Dense or loose tufts on soil or rock, green, 5–20 mm tall. Stems with loose reddish tomentum toward base. Rhizoids reddish brown to reddish purple. Leaves imbricate, sometimes in a compact coma, obovate, 2.5–3.5 mm long, concave and carinate; costa excurrent as a short hairpoint; hairpoint recurved; margin serrate, wit 1–3 rows of narrower cells forming a border in basal half; laminal cells in apical half short-hexagonal or rhomboidal, 25–45 μm long, 16–25 μm wide. Seta 14–29 mm long. Capsules pendulous to horizontal, oblong to clavate, 2.3–4 mm long.
HNF. Known in Victoria from a single record from the Cathedral Range. Also WA and Tas.
