Stiff shrub 0.5–3 m high; bark fibrous, grey or whitish; branchlets pubescent to glabrescent. Leaves ternate or sometimes alternate, crowded, subsessile to shortly petiolate, obovate to ovate, rarely suboricular, 2–9 mm long, 1–7 mm wide, flat or concave above, acute or obtuse with a short mucro, 3-veined, oil glands distinct. Inflorescence a short dense spike, 1.5–3 cm long, 1–2 cm wide; axis pubescent, growing on into a leafy shoot. Flowers 1 per bract; stamens 3–7 per bundle, yellow to white or greenish, claw 2–4 mm long, free part of filaments c. 3 mm long. Capsules c. 2–3 mm long, 3–5 mm wide, sepals usually somewhat persistent. Flowers Aug.–Dec.
