Tuberous-rooted perennial herbs. Leaves rosetted or scattered on elongated stems; lamina entire, ovate to reniform, cordate at base. Flowers solitary; sepals 3; petals 8–12, yellow, glossy; nectary near base of petal, with obtuse or truncate lobe. Achenes hardly compressed, beak minute.
A Eurasian genus (often retained within Ranunculus) of c. 5–15 species (depending on circumscription); 1 species naturalised.
