Puccinellia fasciculata
(Torr.) E.P.Bicknell Borrer's Saltmarsh-grassTufted perennial, culms erect, to 50 cm high. Leaves grey-green, glabrous; blade flat or somewhat folded, to 15 cm long and 5 mm wide; ligule blunt, 1–2.5 mm long. Inflorescence linear to ovate, to 20 cm long and 10 cm wide. Spikelets 2–6-flowered, 3–5 mm long, usually purplish; lower glume c. 1 mm long, upper glume 1.5–1.8 mm long; lemma c. 2 mm long, smooth, with a minute tuft of hairs near the base on the lateral nerves; palea equal to lemma; anthers 0.5–1 mm long. Flowers Nov.–Feb.
Wim, GleP, VVP, VRiv, GipP, OtP, WaP, Gold, CVU, DunT. Also naturalised in SA. Native to western Europe, southern and northern Africa, North America. Occasional in saltmarsh and weedy growth around brackish water mostly near the coast, west of and including Port Phillip Bay, except for an isolated occurence in Gippsland near Clydebank (e.g. Brighton, Port Melbourne, Geelong area, Port Campbell), less common away from the coast (e.g. Hamilton, Ararat, Ballarat and Colac districts).
