Common on lowland sandy soils throughout the State, but absent from or very rare in moist forests, intact heathland and the alps. A common and often troublesome garden weed, but selections have been made of some forms as a close-growing, hardy turf species.
Regarded as being indigenous in Australia by some authorities, but its absence from most unaltered tracts of native vegetation in Victoria strongly suggests that it is an introduction in this State.
