Stems mostly to c. 1 m long. Leaves 4–11 cm long; leaflets ± uniform, oblong, cuneate or elliptic, 2–12 mm wide, obtuse or emarginate. Calyx 12–20 mm long, teeth triangular-subulate, equal to or longer than tube; corolla 20–22 mm long. Pod 3–7 cm long, 6–12 mm wide, distinctly contracted between the seeds, yellow-brown or brown, ± hairy; seeds ± globose, occasionally oblong, 3.5–6.5 mm long. Flowers mainly Aug.–Nov.
LoM, Wim, VVP, VRiv, MuF, GipP, OtP, WaP, Gold, CVU, DunT, NIS, EGL, HSF, HNF. Also naturalised WA, SA, Qld, NSW, Tas. Scattered throughout much of Victoria where introduced as a fodder plant.
Although it has generally larger flowers, in the absence of pods this subspecies is virtually indistinguishable from the subsp. cordata.
