Plants tufted, bulbous, 20–80 cm high. Roots fibrous. Leaves loblong to linear, flat or concave, 15–30 cm long, to 5 cm wide, often withering before flowering time. Inflorescence erect, in a subcorymbose or cylindric raceme, exceeding leaves. Flowers 10–60, cup-shaped; bracts lanceolate; flowering pedicels to 1–4 cm long; perianth segments 14–30 mm long, not widely spreading, white, pigmented at base, unstriped; stamens opposite petals with filaments broadened at base and appendaged; ovary dark purplish. Capsule ovoid, slightly 3-ridged. Late Spring
