Prostrate or erect annual or perennial, variably mealy grey. Leaves opposite or alternate, sessile or petiolate, deltoid to almost circular, c. 5–10 mm long, margins entire, mealy grey-white on lower or both surfaces. Flowers clustered, in short spikes or panicles; terminal flowers male or bisexual, lateral flowers female; tepals 5, densely mealy on outer surface, shortly united at base or to near midway; stamens 5, united at base; pericarp membranous or thinly succulent, persistent. Seed horizontal, black, 1–1.5 mm diam., smooth or granular, remaining enclosed by fruiting perianth at maturity.
