Weak, spreading shrub to c. 0.5 m high and wide, branches densely white-cottony. Leaves 3–10 mm long, cottony when young, becoming glabrous with age. Fruiting perianth cup-shaped to subglobular with c. 10–15 short spines radiating from the summit, 2–3 mm diam. (including spines), glabrous except shortly pubescent lobes. Fruits mostly spring.

LoM, MuM, Wim, VRiv, MSB, RobP, MuF, Gold. LoM, MuF, MuM, MSB, RobP, VRiv, Wim. Also SA, Qld, NSW. Occasional in low-lying, seasonally inundated areas on heavy clay and loamy soils.

The species is treated by some authors as belonging to the monotypic genus Stelligera.
