Stem simple to sparingly branched, to 14 cm long. Leaves erecto-patent to squarrose when dry, lanceolate, 2.6–3.8 (–5.8) mm long, 0.7–1.1 (–1.6) mm wide, plicate; apex acuminate; costa percurrent to short excurrent; margin serrulate toward apex, plane to slightly recurved toward base; mid-laminal cells irregular, linear, short-rectangular or isodiametric, (8–) 10–42 μm long, 4–6 μm wide; alar cells inflated, rectangular to short-rectangular, 20–50 μm long, 10–18 μm wide, c. 2–7 rows. Seta c. 15 mm long. Capsules inclined to almost pendulous, ovoid to cylindric, sulcate when dry.
