Branchlet internodes 9–17 mm long, 0.8–1.2 mm diam., furrows usually glabrous (but frequently some furrows minutely pubescent); ribs rounded. Teeth 7–10, 0.7–2 mm long. Male spikes with 6–11 whorls per cm; anther 0.9–1.1 mm long. Flowers Mar., Aug.–Oct.
LoM, Wim, GleP, Brid, VVP, DunT. Also SA. Grows in heath on sandy soils.
Very similar to A. paradoxa (see notes under that species).
