Racopilum cuspidigerum var. convolutaceum
(Müll.Hal.) Zanten & DijkstraPhyllodioicous. Mats on soil, rocks, logs and tree bases, yellowish to dark green. Stems 1–5 cm long, yellow or green, densely tomentose ventrally with brown rhizoids. Leaves dimorphic, inserted in 6 (seemingly 2) lateral and 2 dorsal rows; laminal cells short-rhomboidal to hexagonal, short-rectangular toward base, distinctly mammillose except at base and marginal row where smooth, (8–) 10–22 (–30) μm long, 8–15 μm wide, juxtacostal cells not differentiated. Lateral leaves decurrent by 1 or 2 cells, spreading laterally and flat when moist, curved upwards and longitudinally convolute, rarely nearly flat when dry, oblong-lanceolate to oblong-ovate, somewhat asymmetric, 0.75–2 mm long, 0.3–0.9 mm wide; apex obtuse to acute, with a smooth arista 100–400 μm long; costa excurrent; margins plane or slightly undulate toward base, entire or serrulate to serrate with unicellular teeth near apex. Dorsal leaves loosely appressed, obliquely forward pointing, ovate or narrowly triangular, smaller than lateral leaves, 0.4–1 mm long, sometimes cordate at base, nearly symmetric; apex obtuse to acuminate; costa excurrent as a smooth arista the same length or longer than lamina; margins plane, entire or serrulate near apex. Hairlike perichaetial paraphyses usually projecting beyond the perichaetial leaves. Setae (10–) 12–25 (–30) mm long, 0.15–0.2 mm thick, yellowish or brownish red, smooth. Capsules horizontal to pendent, cylindric, curved or nearly straight, rarely almost erect, 2–4 (–5) mm long. Calyptra cucullate, with few or numerous hairs. Operculum rostrate from conic base, with an erect or oblique, hooked or straight, (0.5–) 0.7–1 (–1.1) mm long rostrum.
