Rhizomatous or tufted perennials. Inflorescence a dense, contracted panicle. Spikelets 1-flowered; glumes 2, persistent, 1-nerved, stiffly ciliate along the keel; lemma 5-nerved, 2-lobed at apex, with an awn arising between the lobes.
7 species from Australia, New Guinea and New Zealand; all occurring in Australia, 3 in Victoria.
