Hemichroa pentandra
R.Br. Trailing HemichroaProstrate succulent, with branches to c. 20 cm long, arising from a woody rhizome. Stems white-pubescent on new growth, soon glabrous. Leaves alternate, sessile, with partly sheathing bases, linear to narrowly oblanceolate, 7–20 mm long, 1–2.5 mm wide, ± trigonous in section, concave on upper surface, glabrous, blunt or minutely apiculate at apex. Flowers sessile; bracteoles broadly ovate, 2–3 mm long; tepals narrowly ovate, 3.5–4.5 mm long, acute, white, cream or pink on inner surface; stamens 5, united on a shallow cup c. 0.5 mm high around ovary; style c. 1 mm long, bifid to about midway. Utricle ovoid, c. 2 mm long; seed vertical, flattened-ovoid to subreniform, 1–1.5 mm diam., blackish and shining. Flowers Nov.–Feb.
GleP, Brid, VVP, GipP, OtP, WaP, CVU, WPro. Also WA, SA, Tas. Scattered, but locally common in coastal saltmarsh communities from the South Australian border to the Gippsland Lakes.
