Annual herb; stems usually erect, to 90 cm high, glabrous or pappilate. Leaves triangular to ovate-triangular, 2.5–7 cm long, 2–5 cm wide; apex acute; base cordate to truncate. Inflorescence axillary or terminal, flowers in dense racemose or corymbose clusters. Perianth segments 3–4 mm long, pink or white. Achene trigonous to triquetrous, faces flat and smooth, 4–6 mm long, dark brown. Summer.
VVP, GipP. Also naturalised WA, Qld, NSW. Native to Eurasia. Cultivated as a food crop, occasionally escaping cultivation in Victoria.
